Its wide, conical shape resembles the well-known Alberta Spruce for which it is an acceptable substitute. Like Alberta Spruce, in Colorado, it will benefit from winter sun & wind protection.

Red Cone Norway Spruce
Even when young, this delightful conifer develops remarkable, raspberry-red cones on the tips of its branches in spring. The unusual coning habit tends to modify growth rate and shape to produce a broad, spreading pyramid, which becomes wider than tall with age. Known since 1890, the plant has an apt name 'Acrocona' which means "with terminal cones on the end of branches".

An excellent choice for weeping over rocks or walls. Can also be grown on a stake to feature the pendulous nature of the branches and rich green needles. Height will vary according to form. This weeping evergreen can be grafted high on the trunk so as to elevate the foliage off the ground. This gives this plant a natural green waterfall effect.
