Big trees have their place, as an example to block out a neighbor you never want to see again. That¨s where my green Small Wonders differ from their large growing cousins. ¨Green Bun¨ is the perfect example of a Small Wonder that has all the traits of the bigger Bosnian pines, dark green needles, a beautiful squat shape, but has the most important difference a plant can have, it fits in a small sunny space in the garden.

A very narrow dark green evergreen with upward growing branches. Bark has a distinct silver color. This is a low-maintenance, salt-tolerant, disease-resistant specimen.

A very slow-growing, narrow tree, which is time- honored treasure for the garden, especially one with limited space. This sturdy tree matures into a dense, well-proportioned, columnar tree that stays trim even after many years. Elegant, long, dark green needles cover the tree's branches thickly and contribute to a dynamic, full-size feel that fits in tight garden spaces. Superior disease and pest resistance and outstanding health assure year round beauty.

This sturdy, dwarf Bosnian Pine boast a handsome, broadly pyramidal form that stays compact and neat. Trees gradually widen into a classic bell shape, with the base as wide as the tree is tall. A mature 'Irish Belle' displays a colony of upright branches each one decorated with tufts of straight green needles and glistening white fascicles, that give the impression of light dancing on the needles. Good choice for urban and suburban gardens for year round impact.

The needles are of the lovely dark green, stiff, medium length kind that is found on many of the Bosnian Pines. Malinik has a narrow conical shape, with branches that grow out from the trunk, and then curve out and up toward the sky. This tight conical form offsets the broader outlines of many of the annuals and perennials in the garden, and dark green needles do a marvelous job playing off the colors present in companion plants.

Shaped more like a broad teardrop than a gourmet truffle, the highly useful Pinus heldreichii (leucodermis) 'Mint Truffle' is nevertheless a wonderful treat. Dense, finely textured, green needles cover every shoot completely (in contrast to some cultivars that reveal bare stems). Characterized by restrained, slow growth, gently incurving branches and a compact, well- proportioned form. Hardy to -20°F Maximum Elevation: 6,500 ft.
